Laurence Turner: ‘Horns!’

More and more I find myself more excited and interested in the sounds of trumpets, clarinets and saxophones and less consciously moved by the sound of guitars. Most people love songs played on guitars but when was the last time you felt specifically turned on by the sound of a guitar?
These are songs from a range of genres that feature interesting and unusual sounds coming out of horns. I had a lot of fun putting this show together because this is also a pretty solid reflection of my current listening tastes.

With music from:
-John Coltrane
-Colin Stetson
-James Blake
-Steve Reich
-Charles Mingus

and more!

International Airspace: LDN Jazz

This month the show is dedicated to the London Jazz scene, and some of the most exciting artists making music in the UK capital today.

London – second most culturally diverse city in the world and with a legendary bass-heavy club culture – is producing Jazz musicians who are drawing influences from everywhere and filling classic London venues such as Village Underground, XOYO and Scala. From Afro-futurist flare to the darker edges of London’s club scene, we explore the shifting sound of London’s most exciting music scene.

International Airspace: Winter Blues

It’s the first show 2017 and as we all combat the January blues, and with the infamous Blue Monday right around the corner, this show is dedicated to the stories, sounds and catharsis that only the Blues can offer.

From the banks of the Mississippi River to the deserts of the Sahara, we’re exploring the sounds and influence of Blues music wherever it appears from hard times in the sprawling urban city to the refugee camp.
