On this month’s show we’re celebrating Mexico’s Día de Muertos with an entire show dedicated to music for the dead. From the funeral dirge to voodou ceremonies, we explore songs and sounds across the world that help us commune with the deceased.
Thanks for Hannah, Dana, Pame, Jimena and my beloved Mexico City family for all the help and inspiration for this month’s show.
The last track, Allen Toussaint’s funeral procession, is an extended field recording for this upload. I suggest listening to this track with headphones on. As the person recording wanders through the second line and the tempo picks up, you can hear various instruments and voices coming in and out of focus. Listen closely and you can really hear each mourner playing their heart out for Mr Toussaint 🙂
