For the Love of Mic

The silliest rap night in London delves into the world of radio, presenting listeners with a selection of the finest (and funniest) rappers in music. As well as playing anything with an MC on it – from hip hop, garage and grime, to early ’90s rave, R&B and loads of pop – DJs Lexicon and Goldbars will be inviting hip hop agony aunts to analyse rappers’ problems, deconstructing rhymes and generally disagreeing on anything and everything.

As 50 Cent once mumbled in 2002, “we gonna party like it’s your birthday”, and
party they did. London’s silliest rap club night, For The Love Of Mic, celebrated their
second birthday this month, so for an extra special edition of the podcast, DJs
Lexicon & Goldbars decided to get drunk and record it in front of a live studio
audience! The two ideas may sound terrible together, but the results are pleasantly
hilarious. Professor Stevenson makes an unexpected guest appearance to discuss his
new musical ‘Hill vs Hill’, the audience are (rightfully) appalled by the new Abort Or
Birth feature, and miss Lydia Scott surprises everyone with a last-minute, Fresh
Prince-inspired lament to love. Plus Lexicon & Goldbars take a close look at former
Corrie and Hollyoaks star Chris Fountain’s abilities to rhyme cabbage with cabbage,
while bombarding the crowd with shots of Sambuca. Party on!

For The Love Of Mic, Vol. 11

For The Love Of Mic, Vol. 11 by London Fields Radio on Mixcloud

This one goes out to all the mums who brushed their children’s hair and wiped their bottoms when they were small and love them so unconditionally that they’ll even listen to their shoddy podcasts. For The Love Of Mic (the silliest rap club night in London) love you mums and this Mothers’ Day want to pay a special tribute in the form of rap. It’s widely known that MCs love their mums, so DJs Lexicon & Goldbars find out just how lyrically mushy rappers can get when it comes to their old dears, the duo throw in some Mum Jokes for good measure too, and discover how well suburban mums can spit bars. Let’s hear it for the mums!

For The Love Of Mic, Vol. 9

For The Love Of Mic, Vol. 9 by London Fields Radio on Mixcloud

Lexicon and Goldbars have been absent of late and they feel terrible about it, but they’re not about to tender any resignations just yet. Oh no. Instead the hosts of London’s silliest rap club night will be vigorously campaigning to eliminate the causes that have prevented them from recording the show – namely Christmas. Also in this hour, the duo question Beyoncé’s feminism, swoon over Eminem and discover just how hip hop Duran Duran can be, especially when accompanied by seaweed cookies. What are you waiting for? Tune in now!

For the Love of Mic, Vol. 8

For the Love of Mic, Vol. 8 by London Fields Radio on Mixcloud

This month, Lexicon and Goldbars realise that planning is overrated. So they haven’t done any and the result is one hour of chaotic airtime made impulsively on the directions of a fortune cookie. Brand new features are created on the spot, new discoveries are made about ice cream and things even get a little bit Radio 4 when the duo – who also run For The Love Of Mic, the rap club night with a sense of fun – start acting out a Twitter beef between Wiley and Rizzle Kicks. Plus, find out what the world would be like if Snoop Dogg was a country yokel. Good listenin’, to y’all!

For the Love of Mic, Vol. 7

For the Love of Mic, Vol. 7 by London Fields Radio on Mixcloud

Ohhhh they do like to be beside the seaside… This month Lexicon and Goldbars have taken their show to the beach, where Lexicon grapples with yet another pronunciation – this time it’s the famous brass-based disease tuba-culosis. The two DJs – who also run For The Love Of Mic, the rap club night with a sense of fun – argue over Professor Green’s finest work too, or Pro G, as Goldbars prefers to refer to the indestructible MC. Plus, we find out how many nannies Madonna could possibly need, how many cities Tinie Tempah can name and what four plus two equals. It’s a mathstastic episode, people, dig in!
