ArtWerks, Vol. 1

ArtWerks takes art exhibition reviews a step farther by incorporating the everlasting connection between art and music. For each show, Ashton Chandler reviews a selection of three local art exhibitions with tracks inspired by the artworks.

For this first show, tracks by cosmic philosopher Sun Ra are played alongside legendary hip hop group Public Enemy and the smooth-romance ballad of Al Green as Rashid Johnson at South London Galley is reviewed. Classic blues tunes pay homage to Theaster Gates’ exhibition at White Cube Bermondsey, while songs signifying an era of “French cool” portray the playful movements of William Klein’s: Paintings, etc at Hackelbury Fine Art.
