søunds fløating arøund: nøv16 (by this is a prøject.)

Posted on: November 24, 2016

‘søunds fløating arøund’ is a monthly compilation of tracks hand picked by this is a prøject. it’s all about eclecticism so expect various genres of music, including funk, soul, disco, nu-disco, electronica, balearic, chill/deep house and many others.

introducing this month luca schiavoni, who dropped by the cafe & played few records. a bit more about the man: he started djing in 1996 in italy, inspired by the sound of us house music. at the end of the 90s he also became a journalist/reviewer for well known online music magazines such as disc-jockey.it and rin.it. his musical influences include all things deep and atmospheric; while firmly rooted in house music and techno, they also touch on ambient electronica, abstract jazz, and dub.
luca has played records in several key venues in london (ministry of sound, east village, the camp) & co-hosted a monthly party at life between 2014 and 2016.
at present, luca co-hosts a monthly radio show on the italian independent radio gioconda. he is also sometimes seen playing eclectic sets at brilliant corners, one of london’s finest sound systems

luca will be playing alongside seiji ono & wondergupta at the upcoming ‘søunds spinning arøund’ party, which will take place on the 3rd of december in mostart centre, stoke newington. join us!

International Airspace: Songs for the Dead

Posted on: November 6, 2016

On this month’s show we’re celebrating Mexico’s Día de Muertos with an entire show dedicated to music for the dead. From the funeral dirge to voodou ceremonies, we explore songs and sounds across the world that help us commune with the deceased.

Thanks for Hannah, Dana, Pame and my beloved Mexico City family for all the help and inspiration for this month’s show.

Show tip:
The last track, Allen Toussaint’s funeral procession, is an extended field recording for this upload. I suggest listening to this track with headphones on. As the person recording wanders through the second line and the tempo picks up, you can hear various instruments and voices coming in and out of focus. Listen closely and you can really hear each mourner playing their heart out for Mr Toussaint :)
